Just two years ago, we welcomed an international audience of 375 women, family members, and friends facing breast cancer and 30 renowned speakers to the highly-praised one-day Knowledge, Strength & Grace survivorship conference in Boston. Our second annual conference drew 600 eager registrants and 40 speakers who spotlighted a range of essential concerns. Building upon these successes, we are delighted to announce that Knowledge, Strength & Grace is expanding this year to a three-day survivorship retreat on Sandy Island, Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire, June 8 to June 10, 2008. We invite you to join us!
2008 Conference Highlights
There, experts will explain new advances in breast cancer treatment and recovery. A rich roster of breakout sessions will permit small groups to tackle important issues. In the peaceful, rustic setting of the YMCA Sandy Island camp, women will have many chances to try out — not just hear about — health-enhancing, self-nurturing habits. The vast kitchen will host nutrition demonstrations. Massage, acupuncture, and Reiki therapy will be available. Yoga, tai chi, and the Pink Program, fitness classes designed for women in the midst of breast cancer treatment or years beyond, will be taught. Opportunities abound for thwacking tennis balls, taking nature strolls, and swimming, kayaking, or canoeing in the clear waters of Lake Winnipesaukee. Along with this comes the gift of time to connect and reflect.
The 2008 Knowledge, Strength & Grace three-day survivorship retreat is being hosted by the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center and the YMCA of Greater Boston. Our lead sponsor is Friends of Mel Foundation. Backed by such essential, vital sponsorship and the generosity of other wonderful donors, the Quality of Life Fund at Brigham and Women's Hospital expects to underwrite the costs of what promises to be a remarkable, life-affirming three days for women dealing with breast cancer.
